The Practice Education Placement is the final course in the Advanced Specialty Certificate in Community Care Licensing program offered by JIBC. The course is required for students who do not have current experience as a licensing officer.

The goal of Practice Education is to give the student an opportunity to integrate and apply their knowledge and skills in a real workplace setting under the guidance and tutelage of experienced licensing officer preceptors. Through mentoring and coaching from preceptors, students will observe a variety of licensing officer tasks, demonstrate competency in a few key areas, and be exposed to the broader scope of licensing practice. Students will be expected to demonstrate critical thinking, decision-making, and appropriate communication skills in an inter-professional field environment. They will also be expected to demonstrate their understanding of fundamental areas of background knowledge—particularly administrative law—that are directly related to the field of community care licensing.

“What I really loved about this program is that it was online so that I could work and study at the same time. Also, there was the practicum so I could get some experience in the field working as a licensing officer.”

Helen Wale, CCLO Graduate, Community Living BC (CLBC)

“I always recommend the program to colleagues because I believe that JIBC supports the professional learning outcomes of its students.”

Tammy Hull, CCLO Graduate, Northern Health Authority

“I have a great job, doing something I’m really passionate about and taking this program was a huge factor in that.”

Amy Laughren, CCLO Graduate, Island Health

“Not only was I able to get hired as a licensing officer, but I was also able to complete the program during my employment…I can honestly say that I love my job and it was a great career decision. It has helped open my eyes to the vulnerable population and be a resource in the community that people can come to for answers.”
